You've just decided to get married. Congrats! Enjoy the attention and the joy showered onto you by your family and friends. Be humble, talk to everyone who wants to talk to you-remember, they are excited for you and may not take into consideration just HOW many phone calls you're probably getting. And the fact that you still have real life to focus on. You don't WANT to spend every lunch break on the phone with this aunt or that college friend, but try to enjoy it and don't brush them off. You only get married once, right? Well, that's the idea, anyway!
People will ask about dates and locations and colors-DO NOT MAKE BIG DECISIONS
right away!
You could be in a bit of a time crunch-maybe you've got to
take into consideration a move, or you're expecting a visitor in say, 9
months....Hey, it happens. But don't make any big decisions until you've sat
down with your fiance (!) and done what I think is the best first step to
take.
As corny as it sounds, talk about what weddings you have attended
before. What did you like? What didn't you like? Each of you can give 3 or 4
words that describe how you want the day to be. So, for
example...
Intimate, elegant, and understated may translate to a small
guest list, classic black tie, with minimal "frills".
Relaxed, quirky,
and run could mean a big backyard bbq-feeling event in a park.
Also
highlight some words that describe your worst nightmare event.
Country
Club weddings or overly religious ones may make you uncomfortable. Blingy,
flashy spectacle weddings with gown changes might not be your thing. But sitting
down and talking about these few things should be your first step before any
major decisions are made.
